Bathing Belle Swimwear and Snappy Towels at Bluffers Beach

Two highly reputable Toronto clothing designers combined forces during the 2017 Search for Miss Teenage Canada to make interesting and effective ‘sharable moment’ style Instagram marketing contests at Bluffers Beach in Scarborough Ontario.

Danica Salajko at Bluffers Beach Toronto

Bathing Belle swimwear designer Danica Salajko has been making swimwear for almost ten years. She graduated from George Brown College’s Fashion Design Program almost twenty years ago. Danica worked in the film industry as a wardrobe stylist for many years where she specialized in making Spandex clothes for Rock Stars in music videos and also sensible attire for TV commercials before opening her own costume service in 2006 and finally a high-end swimwear shop in 2010.Dan Wood Snappy Towels at Bluffers Point prizes

Dan Wood. the CEO of Snappy Towels microfiber beach towels is also something of a swimwear designer, or more accurately a swimwear product designer, as his gear can be worn or used in many different ways.

These two entrepreneurs merged in this unique marketing move to celebrate beach fashion and lifestyle. The official photographer Darren Lee had a difficult time finding low-contrast areas to shoot his models and you can see the side of his set in the background of this image below. he was putting models up against the rocks in the shade of small trees and letting the background blow-out, but I was up on the rocks exposing for the sun and trying to keep the busy beach visible in the distant background.

On Aug 10th 2017 at Bluffers park, a lovely beach in the shadow of the Scarborough Bluffs, fifteen models were selected from over fifty willing participants, all regional delegates in a national beauty pageant. These young people were asked to try on bathing suits and pose for photos and then broadcast their own images on Facebook and Instagram.

Snappy towels were also present and dispensed as prizes during swim activities in the 2017 Search for Miss World Canada. The blue and pink beach balls are in many of the photographs taken above the water that day. Their own Snappy Towels blog chronicled the #SaltwaterSelfie event at Mayfair Clubs wherein their towels were offered up as prizes.

Snappy Towels was also looking stylish on board the Toronto harbour charter cruise vessel Oriole on Weds 19th of July, when fifty-seven remarkable young females went cruising the Toronto harbour. The delegates, each seeking a jewel encrusted faux silver crown that represents perfection in the eyes of nine judges, stepped about Mariposa Cruises’ charter vessel Oriole at approximately noon for a one-hour cruise.

These young people had already enjoyed a very busy day; they had just come from Ripley’s Aquarium and before that they were showcased on Breakfast Television Weds 19 July 2017 show.
You can see all this in the Official 2017 Miss World Canada Activities Video

Another video made of the cruise experience is equally high-quality. The movie below was made by Cognition Video Productions Toronto and captures some of most fashionable moments.

As Snappy towels dispensed prizes on deck, the delegates, sourced from all over the nation, wearing silver crowns and sashes marking their province-of-origin were understandably excited at the prospect of seeing Toronto from the lake.

Raymi the Minx was at Miss World Canada dancing on deck for most of the cruise, representing KPDI digital agency and you can read her dispatch about the 2017 Search for Miss World Canada on Raymi Toronto.  Rob Campbell wrote his missive about what life is like Inside the 2017 Miss World Canada pageant on Sharing Toronto.

Peekaboo Beans feature image in Calgary Alberta

Peekaboo Bean’s Fashion for Pre-Schoolers in Calgary Alberta

In the beautiful city of Calgary there is not a day that passes that you don’t see a variety of different clothing and fashion styles! Whether it’s the style of someone’s hair, their choice of outfit,  or the style of one of the amazing buildings in downtown Calgary, it is a truly beautiful and fashionable place! The word ‘fashion’ normally brings to mind well dressed women and men in the streets of a busy cosmopolitan city, or beautiful, well dressed models walking a runway.
For this blog post I decided to focus on a smaller segment of the fashion population, which are the kids who will define the fashion of the future.  Kids can be very fashionable, while still doing what they do best, which is just being kids!
Peekaboo Beans clothes lets kids do just that. This Street Chic blog post focuses on a sharp-looking line of Canadian designed kids’ clothing that are soft and comfortable yet durable and inspire kids to run, jump and play. You will find many fashionable kids on the streets and playgrounds of Calgary sporting the very stylish Peekaboo Beans clothing line. This apparel is great for young kids who are excited to play.
Peekaboo Beans has fashionable and comfortable clothes that kids all around Canada will wear and find comfortable. Peekaboo Beans was created with a vision that kids can play and look amazing at the same time. These clothes are also super durable and can last through even the toughest falls and stains! These clothes are also great because children can easily dress themselves without going crazy on patterns.
All Peekaboo Beans clothes are mix and match so even the littlest ones can dress themselves and always have a coordinating outfit!  The young people in the photos definitely stand out the streets of Calgary with their clothes. These boys enjoy running, playing and having fun like any kids should, but with the dependable fabrics their parents don’t need to worry about the Peekaboo Beans clothing getting ripped!
As if the clothing line of Peekaboo Beans isn’t amazing enough the founder of the company, Traci, has incorporated some great safety and comfort features into the clothes as well.  For example the clothing items with zippers include a chin guard to protect your child’s chin from getting caught in the zipper! And, just when you think it can’t get any better you don’t have to worry about itchy tags that can irritate your child’s skin.  Peekaboo Beans has cleverly taken care of this annoying feature by hiding the tags within the layers of the fabric.
Justin Trudeau with toddler wearing Peekaboo BeansThe very fashionable founder of Peekaboo Beans, Traci is always working to market her products and get the word out about her stylish and comfortable kids’ line.  She recently designed the outfits that were on display at our country’s capital on Canada Day, being modeled by the children of our Prime Minister, as can be seen in the picture attached.
All of the Peekaboo Bean prices are very reasonable as well given the amazing value that is coming with your clothes.  Most  dresses range anywhere from $40-$60. And for a boys T-shirt only $30-$40. To sum up my blog post I would like to address how these clothes tie into my platform, These clothes can let kids stay active and healthy in a very fashionable way and I hope all parents and kids decide to make the switch, as their website says “Once you go BEANS, you never go back!”

Cambridge center mall on Hespelar Rd

Fashion at Cambridge Center Mall on Hespeler Rd

By Kaitlyn, Miss Teenage Waterloo Region 2017

On the Thursday before the August civic holiday weekend in Cambridge, Ontario, when all of our local-fashionistas are out preparing for upcoming endeavours, I took an opportunity to visit the Cambridge Center Mall on Hespeler road and get some inspiration. Along the way I happened to run into a beautiful girl named Chloe.

vneck tshirt from ReitmansChloe is 21 years old and loves to travel, in fact she moved to Canada 3 years ago from Wales.  She described herself as creative and shared with me her passion for drawing. So… what is she wearing!? Being a full time Pandora employee, her uniform requires her to wear black on black on black. Chloe is wearing a high fashion black twisted V-neck T-shirt from Urban Planet made from polyester and nylon which she purchased for $15. For pants she chose trendy black leggings from Reitmans made out of viscose and nylon for $45. Black Adidas flats, and 2 gorgeous Pandora bracelets and 3 rings all made from sterling silver, cubic zirconia, and pearl accents.

Next up in the Cambridge Center on Hespeler Road I stumbled upon a true beauty, Brianna. Brianna is the youngest out of 9 biological siblings, and also has 4 foster siblings! She just switched school’s at the age of 17, and currently works 4 jobs! Brianna is an equestrian, she loves to ride horses at Irish Creek Stables, and loves art and fitness. She was wearing a blue dress from Winners made out of cotton for $14, a cover up black jacket made from nylon and polyester also from Winners for $25. To tie the outfit together she wore a thick black belt made out of leather and elastic from Ardenes for $10. And on her feet, heels from Aldo for $80. I noticed this gorgeous ring on her finger as well, and it came out of a candle! Charmed aroma candles and bath bombs are gifts she receives often, and they definitely pay off. (And might I add, her makeup skills are incredible.)

Lastly, on my way home I bumped into Kimberly. Kimberly is 43 years old and in the pharmaceutical industry, she loves fitness, gardening and water sports at her cottage. When Kimberly has down time, she listens to audiobooks. In fact she just finished listening to 44 hours of Stephen King’s ‘It’ novel. Kimberly is wearing a Frank Lyman designer beaded white dress made out of lycra, nylon, and cotton which she purchased for $165. On her feet gorgeous sparkly heels from Aldo for $99 and on her wrist a FitBit Charge 2 for $169. This was taken on McFarlane Drive, in Cambridge Ontario.

My favourite part about seeking out the greatest fashions in my region was getting to meet new people. All of the girls were so lovely and helpful to me, I definitely made new friends today! This experience has taught me that you don’t have to be wearing Gucci or Kate Spade to be considered chic. If Brianna hadn’t told me her belt was from Ardenes, I would never have known. The moral of the story here is that you can be extremely fashionable and not break the bank. It’s all about knowing where to look. I hope this article changes your perspective about brands. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the creation of this article, you’re all beautiful, and are definitely worthy of the title “Street Chic”.

Five Different Fashions in Halifax

by Rachelle, 2017 Miss Nova Scotia World

Welcome to Halifax! For the fashion forward shopper, the city has a fabulous shopping district that includes a variety of smaller boutiques, as well as a shopping center located right on Spring Garden Road. If you’re a bargain hunter, be sure to hit up the second hand clothing stores that carry trendy vintage pieces at affordable prices. Being the home of numerous universities, Halifax is filled with students from all over the world that bring their own diverse style to the city.

On a bright and warm summers day, Carly confidently stepped out of the office in her high heels for a casual lunch at the Bicycle Thief. In her form fitting, dusty rose dress; she met a friend on the boardwalk patio that overlooks the Halifax harbor in Bishop’s Landing.

She paired this simple and sophisticated ensemble with neutral accessories and make-up, while leaving her natural curls down and relaxed to compliment this effortless look.

Living in the heart of Halifax allows Carly to attend all the local attractions; after spending her day volunteering at the hospital, she tied her hair into a trendy topknot and changed into this cool outfit to meet friends at the Halifax Jazz Festival.

She paired this funky patterned crop top with a pair of high-rise cut off jean shorts and a gold necklace, all purchased from Winners for under $50.00! The best part about this stylish ensemble is that she can easily wear it to the Stubborn Goat Beer Garden for a casual drink after leaving the concert. Also, be sure to check out Argyle Street if you are visiting Halifax, as this street offers an exciting nightlife that features an abundance of pubs, bars and clubs.

When looking to celebrate a momentous occasion such as an anniversary, Haligonians will flock to downtown Halifax to enjoy a romantic dinner date. Whether you’re craving a greasy burger and fries from Your Fathers Mustache or a delicious bowl of  from Amano, your appetite will surely be satisfied. Carly chose to wear a floral dress from MinkPink and paired it with a purple clutch to go to dinner with her beau at the Hamachi Steakhouse on Lower Water Street. This modest and flirty, off-the-shoulder dress matches her beautiful personality and accentuates her curves.

When she’s not working or studying, Carly can be found at the Dalplex gym on South Street. Here she is seen sporting all the latest gear from Victoria’s Secret; she loves wearing her cropped workout pant with her exposed back and flowy tank that shows off her mint green sports bra. The versatility and comfort of this outfit allows her to practice yoga, play sports and even can be worn during weight training. She brings her backpack with her so she has all the necessities required for a successful workout.

Sunday mornings are best spent at the Halifax Seaport Market on Marginal Road; Carly’s outfit is perfect for browsing the goods offered by the local vendors that gather at Pier 21. Her high-waisted maxi skirt with a flirty slit up the front was a definite eye-catcher; the burgundy and neutral tones paired with a simple tank and loafers really pulled this outfit together. She accessorized with several gold bangles that were a perfect match for her Michael Kohr’s tote bag. Carly always brings her chic sunglasses with her so that she is able to enjoy baked goods and a coffee along the sunny waterfront before walking home from downtown.

Living in the heart of Halifax has allowed Carly to experience everything that this beautiful city has to offer. Her ability to mix and match patterns and colors highlights this seasons trendiest looks and really shows off her fun and bright personality

Street Chic in Yorkville with Jeannie Lottie

Jeannie Lottie - Pink House - Yorkville Toronto

Jeannie Lottie Pink House at 32 Scollard St in Yorkville Toronto

Yorkville is a Canadian Fashion Hot Spot

Yorkville has upscale shopping, restaurants, and the first five star hotel in Canada. Upscale boutiques include Burberry, Prada, Gucci, MAC Cosmetics, Hugo Boss, Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Holt Renfrew, Tiffany & Co., Escada, Ermenegildo Zegna, Cartier, Harry Rosen, Calvin Klein, Cole Haan, Vera Wang, Lacoste, Ferrari, Maserati, Williams-Sonoma, Bang and Olufsen, Betsey Johnson, Max Mara, Montblanc, Bulgari, Birks, Coach, Guerlain, Swarovski, and other upscale designer boutiques. The Holt Renfrew store on Bloor is the luxury retailer’s flagship and largest store with four floors and boutiques.

Jeannie’s Pink House was built after the turn of the century when Yorkville was called St Paul’s Ward.  Just look at how the neighborhood has grown up over eleven decades, and matured in many other ways around this iconic fashion house.

In the 1960s, Yorkville flourished as Toronto’s bohemian cultural centre. It was the breeding ground for some of Canada’s most noted musical talents, including Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot, as well as then-underground literary figures such as Margaret Atwood, Gwendolyn MacEwen and Dennis Lee.

It wont be long before this property and the one beside it are redeveloped into towering condominiums; the only thing that could prevent that from happening would be if Jeannie Lottie’s Pink House is declared a national treasure, and even then I bet it would be removed and added pink-brick by pink-brick to the facade of the new condo building.

Up in the tree house behind the Pink House, Jeannie Lottie was holding court and hobnobbing with some of the most influential and respected names in Toronto’s diverse fashion and entertainment scene. From noon to three pm there was music, wine and wonderful discussions happening at the rear of 32 Scollard.

So many stunning fashion pieces were on display, but one thing about Jeannie Lottie’s merchandise that always attracted me was her faux diamond ring key chain. This item sells for a few dollars only in the store, or used too (this one is vintage). You can see the photographer’s powder blue shirt and camera in the ‘gem’.

Under the photographer’s feet are hundreds of complimentary Jeannie Lottie beach bags. Every guest that showed up with their paper confirmation could collect a complimentary signature Jeannie Lottie beach bag. It was all very organized. Participants were encouraged to visit the store first to collect a Love Canada invitation card, and the afterwards join the party on the tree house deck.

As usual Jeannie’s party was very friendly with lots of people from different backgrounds and some folks just dropping in to say hello and have a cocktail before heading back out to attend other celebrations all over town. Those of us who stayed and mingled enjoyed the complimentary wine and snacks, free makeup and anti-aging consultation by Arbonne and conversations with notable artists and fashion designers, Amy Sky, Camilla Scott and Jane Ip.
