Outstanding Fashion in the Old Port of Montreal

by Alexandra, Miss Teen Monteregie 2017

On a Saturday evening in summer, fashion abounds in the Old Port of Montreal. It had been a long time since I had gone there. It is a place that represents my childhood , I always went to the science center growing up, fascinated by all the scientific phenomena that I could not explain at the time. It made me really nostalgic, for I had forgotten about it.  So I decided to choose La Place de la Promenade for the article. It’s amazing to think that this place has been around for more than 350 years. This port has played a key role in the economic activity of the metropolis. More than 12.5 million tons of merchandise used to transit through Montreal. In 1963, it was declared as a historic district. Since 2005, the old port has been redesigned to become a touristic attraction. It welcomes six million visitors annually.

Lucky for me, Gloria happened to be one of the visitors it welcomed that day. Her incredible fashion sense made her stand out from the crowd. I’m usually not a fan of pink, but I found that her purse truly brought a unique touch to the outfit. It perfectly complemented her camel shaded Wilfred Boissier shorts made of authentic vegan suede from Aritzia as well as her 100% viscose Italian black Rio top from Brandy Melville. Her accessories were like the cherry on the cake, they added an elegant touch to the ootd. The Aviator sunglasses come from Rayban. They bear their name because they were originally designed for the pilots of the US air force since 1937. They remain trendy despite their age. As for her 100% cotton bandana print scarf it comes from Forever21. To top it all off, her cute fluffy Steve Madden faux fur slippers really put the finishing touch to the outfit.

Outfit Price

  • Glasses : $190,00
  • Bandana : $14,90
  • Top : $20,00
  • Purse : ≈ $1000,00
  • Shorts : $75,00$
  • Shoes : $40,00

TOTAL : ≈ $1339,90

Gloria’s exquisite sense of style isn’t the only thing that defines her. Born and raised in Canada but originally from El Salvador, she pursued a career as a makeup artist based in Mississauga Ontario. She’s currently an education trainer for new stores in the Greater Toronto Area. I’m glad I had the chance to meet her!

Clement

My evening didn’t end there, later that night I met another makeup artist: Clément.  He is a new youtuber who uses his channel to inspire and share his passion: makeup. He discovered his passion by stealing his sister’s makeup and draws his inspiration from several celebrities of the beauty industry such as Jeffree Star, Coco Channel, Katy Perry. He admires these artist because they all value self-confidence and acceptance. I stalked his channel and his style immediately captivated me! He distinguishes himself by his unique colorful style that pops. I suggest you go take a quick look at Clementime his Instagram and Youtube channel! Don’t worry, all the products he uses are cruelty-free, a very important moral for him. On a more serious note, he is currently studying at the Gérald-Godin college in Social Science and he wants to go into the field of politics as a deputy.

Clément’s outfit

My favourite part of the outfit was obviously his makeup. Honestly, it was surprising to see a guy wearing makeup, but I absolutely loved it! I believe in equality and I admire his confidence.  His shark print cotton slim fit shirt from Le Château was matching his black umbrella as well as his Ralph Lauren shoes. All of this, was  completed with a pink cotton pair of shorts from American Eagle. Let’s not forget his cruelty-free backpack from Matt&Nat.

Clement you have really marked me with your beautiful energy, I wish you success!

Outfit Price

  • Shirt : $50,00
  • Umbrella : $15,00
  • Shoes : $80,00
  • Shorts : $70,00
  • Backpack : $175,00

TOTAL = $390,00

To conclude this article, I would like to thank Gloria and Clément for their time. I loved writing this about interesting people like you  with such an amazing style. What a coincidence to have found two makeup artists in one night! May we meet again.

Casual Fashion in Kensington Village, Calgary

By Emily, Miss Teen North Calgary 2017

Fashion is one of the most personal forms of expression. Since my style has always been different, I’ve never really fallen into a specific category with my wardrobe. Through first and last days of school, bowties and ‘DIY’ jewelry, I’ve learned that getting creative with your attire can make a lasting impression wherever you go.

Traveling anywhere in the world will give you the opportunity to explore new looks and ideas in regards to what fashion is. It could be defined by what the hottest celebrities are wearing, or simply by what makes you feel your absolute best. You can find Inspiration for your wardrobe anywhere; the mall, Instagram, and even your friends and family. I have personally always admired the styles of Julia and Sarah, two talented and successful girls who are taking the world by storm.

While working full time as a restaurant chef, Julia doesn’t have many opportunities to get creative with her style. Therefore when she isn’t in uniform, she fully embraces her chance to make a statement with her fashion. On the other hand, Sarah works full time as a Nanny, which creates more opportunities to get creative with her wardrobe. Nevertheless, when the two girls aren’t working, they take to the streets of Kensington Village, just north of Downtown Calgary to relax, grab a coffee, and express their own personal styles.

white tube top and ripped denim blue jeansOne of Julia’s favourite go-to looks is a $45 simple white tube top from Aritzia and a pair of $67 stylishly ripped light wash American Eagle jeans. She’s paired this look with ($25) 3” chunky heeled sandals from Walmart and a $35 matching black cross shoulder bag from Garage. This edgy and inexpensive look never fails to get Julia feeling ready to take on whatever the day will hold.fashion pink shirt jeans in Calgary

Sarah’s first outfit consists of a $30 fitted bright pink shirt with a triangle-shaped keyhole neckline that she purchased from express, which she paired with classic $75 dark blue jeans from Guess, some stylish $120 light brown leather block heels from Steve Madden and a matching $50 brown purse from Spring.

Tying the dress in the front with a bow completes the look and provides a fun and flirty feeling. It was purchased from Winners for $25. Pairing this dress with $80 white converse gives this dress a relaxed and casual vibe.

The bright colours in this look give Sarah the perfect summer style. She completed the look with some beautiful blue $40 heeled sandals purchased from Lulus.

The $45 black off the shoulder shirt from Dynamite is dotted with a white and pink flowers print and has a looser fit to keep you cooler longer in the hot Calgarian sun. The sleeves on the shirt are complete with a slit running down the outer arm. Julia paired this look with $67 blue jeans from American Eagle, and some fashion forward $75 loafer style shoes from Aldo. She worked the same black bag into this new look, which proves just how versatile fashion can be.

The dress that Sarah is wearing in this final photo was only $30 that she bought from Forever 21 It is an elegant white fitted dress with a scoop neckline. She added to the summery look with an adorable pendant necklace from Hawaii. She completed the look with some navy blue tie up heels that she purchased for $40 from Lulus.

I believe that fashion is undoubtedly defined by you. Wear what makes you feel beautiful, and wear it with pride. “Style is very personal, it has nothing to do with fashion, fashion is over quickly. Style is forever.” -Ralph Lauren

Small town girl fashion in Nova Scotia

Small Town Girl Fashion in Nova Scotia

By: Lindsey, Miss Teenage Northern Nova Scotia 2017

Fashion in Nova Scotia is so individualized and unique. Walking down the streets of our small town you can see just how diverse fashion can be. As the present Miss Teenage Northern Nova Scotia, fashion is a large part of why I decided to enter this pageant and today I am going to share with you some street fashion I have come across.

Coming from the small town of Pictou, Nova Scotia, dressing up many seem a bit out of the norm. Many people say “when you live in a small town where everybody knows everybody there is no need for dressing up fancy”.  But this may be when its MOST important! Small town or big city, what girl doesn’t love picking out an outfit, getting her nails done, doing makeup and styling her hair. Just because we come from a small town it doesn’t mean we need to compromise our individual desire for fashion.

Coming from a small fishing community I thought it was only appropriate I share with you the beauty that comes with that.

downtown Pictou Nova Scotia

That is why I chose to photograph someone on Caladh Ave, in downtown Pictou.  With its vibrant colored buildings and breathtaking waterfront Pictou is an extremely inviting town with much to offer.

On this one short road is where our history begins. Pictou is known to be the “Birthplace of New Scotland” as it was on this shoreline where the first wave of Scottish immigrants landed in 1773.

Meet Harmony, she is a twenty-two-year-old student at Saint Francis Xavier University. She is currently enrolled in her second year of the elementary education program. As many school teachers do, harmony struggles to find clothes that are both work appropriate and fashionable. Harmony adores working with children and helping them to learn and grow. However, she wishes for clothes that are both cute and comfortable enough to wear all day long.

While working with children you must look professional while following the many dress code rules which have been put in place. As Harmony is an elementary school teacher, she has learned working with children involves much movement and activity which her outfit must allow her to partake in. With all of these restrictions Harmony struggles to put together outfits that allow for both comfort and style.

As our small town continues to grow we have seen a growth in the local fashion industry. Stores and boutiques including Ahead of hair and Sea Side Treasure Trove have made their mark and are becoming quite popular. But there is still a struggle with such limited amount of shopping destinations in our town. This usually means a small road trip to Halifax Nova Scotia in search of appropriate work attire.

I believe Harmony has accomplished the perfect mixture of professional and comfort with this stylish outfit. Harmony paired a very simple pair of classic High-waisted black jeans from Garage ($50), with a lovely off the shoulder floral top she bought from Charlotte Russe ($22).

Harmony has lovely diamond earrings

Harmony decided to pair this beautiful yet simple outfit with diamond earing’s she bought from local Pictou business Ahead of Hair ($20), and a diamond necklace she bought from local business Sea Side Treasure Trove ($36).

Also, she added a purse which she purchased at GUESS ($75) and stylish strappy sandals from Steve Maddens, Madden Girl collection ($55).

I believe this fashion find proves big fashion can come from a small place. With fashion it is important to let your individuality shine and wear what you feel most comfortable in. From the small town of Pictou, Nova Scotia to a big city of Toronto, unique and beautiful fashion is everywhere.
