Casual Classics in Lethbridge, Alberta

By Grace, Miss Teenage Alberta 2017

“In a world full of trends I want to remain a classic.” –Iman

In fashion terms, I would consider myself to be more on the sophisticated, classy, artsy, chic end of the spectrum. The outfits in this article are what I would wear every day. With a modern look that holds onto classic pieces that are sure to turn heads. Fashion is art, and in art there is no rules.

At the end of July, my awesome photographer, Adam and I took some pictures in the heart of my home town Lethbridge. Born and raised in this urban city, I encounter art every day. I’m 17 years old and graduated high school in Lethbridge a year early. Driven and ambitious, I’m headed into the world of business. My wardrobe reflects my light-heartedness and professionalism. For my outfits. on a day to day basis, I find one piece that I’m inspired by and mold my attire around it.

Calm Confidence – My first look is inspired by this black hat called “The Jackson Fedora” by Shannon Phillips. “The Jackson Fedora” is 100% wool and a replica of one of Michael Jackson’s hats. The designs of hats haven’t changed in hundreds of years. I forgo trendy pieces in favour of the classics. The other accessories I’m wearing in this picture are vintage Swarovski crystal earrings, a Swiss watch by Wittnauer and a sterling silver bangle & ring set from Pandora. The real gem of this outfit is the sapphire lady Diane ring!!

The rest of my outfit is chic and artsy. Blue jean button up shirt from Pseudo, faded plaid beige blazer from Le Chateau and black ankle pants from Reitman’s. These nude, lace up corduroy heels from The Bay are a must for me to complete this outfit. They look hot and will keep anyone who wears them cool for the summer. Also getting a head start on fall fashion for 2017, corduroy will be almost inescapable! Finding one or two key clothing items to build an outfit around, saves time in our busy lives. It keeps my street style looking put together on any occasion. Layering is a fun way to change up a look instantly. In the morning before going to my favourite local coffee shop, Bread Milk & Honey, in my hometown we did some shopping and went for a walk through Galt Gardens.

Cool & Casual – The following day, July 31st was a day to run some errands in downtown Lethbridge. I enjoy strolling through the shops and streets. The farmer’s market on 6th street is where I sold rafiki bracelets to fund-raise for the We Charity and enjoy browsing through all the vendors. Thought it was fitting to take some cool pictures downtown, where I attend local events.

For my second look, I focused on the must have maxi dress by KOY Resort from the Travelman Luggage & Swimwear Warehouse. Light, flowy, soft and timeless with a slit half-way up the leg on both sides makes it perfect for the hot weather we’ve been having in Lethbridge. It has a jaw string to accentuate my waistline and several buttons from the center of the neckline to the jaw string. I paired it with a cute blue pair of dark blue lace up flats from The Bay. The over the shoulder, edgy, white and grey alligator textured leather purse from Guess compliments the edginess of the slits up the sides of the dress. The earth friendly is a pair of Kuma sunglasses with bamboo arms. Lastly, I added the earrings from Le Chateau with a gold frame as they add a little bit of sparkle.

I prefer sophisticated pieces and having classic go to items that have endless outfit combinations. We live in 2017, people shouldn’t have to look a certain way to feel beautiful or accepted. To me fashion is how individuals express themselves through hair, make-up, clothes, and accessories. The second definition of fashion is “a manner of doing something.” Both of those sentences are about self-expression. When I say fashion is art and in art there is no rules, I mean there is no limits for self-expression. Fashion is about expressing our own individuality through our own unique styles. All our differences makes us beautiful!

Family Fashion at Tanger Outlets in Ottawa

By Jesika,  Miss Teen Ottawa 2017

I get inspired when it comes to fashion; I love the fact that you have different styles to work with, different types of clothing (dresses, shorts, blouses etc). Sometimes we shop looking for something specifc in a store, and other times we just cruise around soaking it up. That’s just what happens at Tanger Outlets in Ottawa.

When it comes to clothing, everything is specific. Its a choice whether you like that new ‘Louis Vuitton’ Rose Ballerine Shoulder Flap Bag? or those ‘Gucci’ Ace Embroidered White Leather Sneakers?  Then you’re always choosing a colour and look that suits your taste… Whether you prefer those gold heels or silver heels? Do you like those strappy heels or those full-on covered heels? Who knows?! But what I do know is that whatever you’re wearing will show people around you what your type of style is, when you’re wearing something then it can compliment your face, your body type etc, but most of all it can catch someone’s eye. That’s what I meant when I was talking about the fact that fashion and clothing can be specific because when we buy something then we want it to fit our needs.

Now as I can say even though most of us love GUCCI or LOUIS VUITTON, than sometimes or anytime it can’t fit our budget,  this is why I wanted to show you the fashion that I am totally into, that will definitely make the cut into your budget!

At Tanger Outlets in Ottawa, in the pictures below, three lovely young ladies model beautiful clothes with an equally attractive price tag. Clothes don’t have to be expensive to look great!

First, let me start off with introducing you to these lovely ladies. These three ladies are Sonya and her two girls, Cameron and Mackenzie.family fashion in Ottawa at the outlet mall

These girls are showing off their inner style and honestly I am totally loving it! As for most people by now must be intrigued to find out the prices for these clothes, I’ll just have to get right into it!

Sonya’s outfit looks simple but great. Her outfit includes a white dress with black designs all over, styled with brown sandals as well as a pair of black sunglasses.

Her Dress was from ‘OLD NAVY’ for $29
Shoes are from ‘GUESS’ for $29
Sunglasses are also from ‘GUESS’ for $29
Total Price Of Full Outfit= $87

Moving on to Cameron (Oldest Daughter):

Cameron and her outfit look super pretty! Cameron’s outfit has some pop of color to it with a zip-up dress and might I add beautifully patterned dress with Gold sandals.

Cameron’s Outfit Prices:
The Dress is from ‘The Bay’ for $40
Shoes are from ‘JOE FRESH’ for $19
Total Price Of Full Outfit: $59

Last but definitely not least, Mackenzie’s outfit! Makenzie looked absolutely adorable in her outfit which was a light colored butterfly dress with Hot Pink sandals.

Mackenzie’s Outfit Prices:
Her Dress is from ‘H & M’ for only $5
Her Shoes are from ‘JOE FRESH’ for $19

Total Price of Full Outfit: $24

All in all, as you can tell these outfits were hits! They weren’t designer clothes but looked fantastic paired with the right pair of shoes! I hope you all have found some inspiration from this blog post! Now maybe, you know what stores to shop at, for the perfect gift for the right price!

Before I say, my goodbye’s until Pageant Week, I want to give big thanks to Sonya, Cameron, and Mackenzie for helping me out because without them than I wouldn’t have been able to write this blog post!

Fashion on Stephen Ave in Calgary

Fashion on Stephen Ave Walk in Calgary

by Maneet, Miss Southern Alberta World 2017

On July 7, 2017 I took to the ever-famous Stephen Avenue in Calgary as Miss Southern Alberta World to begin my street chic blog journey. When choosing what street I would use in this blog Stephen Avenue was the first place that came to mind without a single thought. In 2002 the street was declared a National Historical District!

Every person in Calgary knows the Stephen Avenue Walk, whether it be young or old. It is one of the busiest streets of downtown no matter which day you decide to go. This street is known as the ‘pedestrian mall’, with numerous stores, restaurants, entertainment and hot spots, there are also opportunities for smaller vendors to get their product and services on display. From a live band performance to clothing, Stephen Avenue has it all. This famous street is also the one place you can find people rocking all sorts of different clothing styles. It is definitely the epicenter of Calgary fashion as the street links to ‘The Core’, downtown’s largest indoor mall that carries almost every brand that you can think of.

To begin, the day was quite warm for what us Calgarians are used to at around 30 degrees

Thus the street was busier than ever and people were off enjoying their day in the heat. Thus I ran into quite a few stylish people throughout my day.

Bronwhyn on Stephen Street

Bronwhyn on Stephen Ave in Calgary’s downtown core.

The first was Bronwhyn, who was wearing a beautiful white chiffon dress by Jessica Simpson, she had purchased it from The Bay. With it she had paired a blue denim vest from Gap. Her mint green purse was by Kate Spade, which was also purchased from The Bay. Along with her dress she was rocking a pair of burgundy cowgirl boots by Riley and McCormick.

Next I saw Daniele, she was just finishing up work and was dressed up in spirit of the Calgary Stampede, which is an outdoor show that happens in Calgary every July. Daniele was styled in an American Eagle  purple and pink flannel and denim shorts along with a pair of sneakers from Keds Shoes. Her leopard trim glasses were from Forever 21 and only cost her $5!

Danielle and Wei on Stephen St

Wei’s outfit was definitely an eye-catcher for me, I could see her standing out from a distance. She was wearing a blue chiffon dress from The Bay, and white shoes from The Shoe Company. Her glasses were purchased from the Sunglasses hut, her hat and purse were from Aldo.

Me asking Mung

Maneet asks Mung why wear a black suit on the hot day?

Then I saw Mung, who was wearing a full suit on quite a hot day, he was actually heading to a quick meeting with someone at Cactus Club Café on Stephen Avenue. He was dressed in a double-breasted suit and shirt with French cuffs all from RW & Co. Interestingly; he had bought his shoes from Mongolia, and they were definitely eye-catching.

Brandon and Ryan on Stephen St

Bradon and Mung on Stephen Ave in Calgary

Bradon was just finishing up his day at work as he was heading out on Stephan Avenue. He was dressed in a navy blue block wrangler shirt and Levi jeans, while also sporting a white cowboy hat in spirit of the Calgary Stampede.  His shoes were from Larriat and watch from Hugo Boss.

Lastly, I met Ryan. He had recently just moved to the city and was out to explore the hottest spots, so I had caught him in just the right place. Ryan was rocking a navy blue suit from Calvin Klein, along with a striped J crew shirt. His shoes were from Johnston & Murphy, which he paired with colorful blue and green socks from Express.

As I was on the street I noticed that there were many diverse clothing styles, whether it be the men in business suits on a hot day coming from work, or the girls in dresses spending their day out. However none of them failed to stand out with their unique styles, which made my street chic experience on Stephen Avenue definitely a success.
