Fashion in Abbottsford British Columbia

Fashion on Montrose Ave. in Abbotsford, British Columbia

by Georgia, Miss Teen Fraser Valley 2017

Living in the Fraser Valley you get to see a lot of different fashion styles, especially in the summer. This year’s summer has been quite hot with some days being close to 40 degrees Celsius. Thus staying cool is a big priority when picking out an outfit. I personally take fashion inspiration from all over the world and through many eras, though I have to say that the 60s are favourite. What I love about the street I chose, is that as you walk down it you will see so many different and unique styles that all look good. Montrose avenue in Abbotsford, BC is located at the heart of its historic downtown. Both sides of the street are full of bakeries, vintage shops, boutiques, music shops and so much more.

Veronica is a University student with a great sense of style. She is currently studying science at SFU but has decided to change her studies to become a fashion designer. Come next year Veronica is traveling to Asia and hopes that while she is there she will find lots of inspiration to help her in the future. Veronica is wearing an upcycled white vintage top, a mauve high waisted pleated skirt that she custom made and white Adidas runners for $75. She has paired this outfit with a super cute light pink purse from Michael Kors for $198. Veronica is pictured outside Invana TeaHouse on Montrose ave. in Abbotsford. I chose this location because of the vintage and rustic feel the business gives off.  This outfit is super cute and casual, which is perfect for the hot weather in the Fraser Valley. In this ensemble you can go for brunch or a walk in the park;  her skirt and shirt combo really has no limits.

Fashion styles in Frasier Valley British ColumbiaCamillie is a university student and loves to express herself through her fashion. Camillie and her two sisters run a fashion instagram (@fashionandfetch ) where they show off their different styles to the world. They hope to inspire others to do the same. Her influence comes from all over the world and she is always looking for the perfect items to add to her closet! The orange shorts and white shoes that Camillie is wearing come from different shops along the beach in Chile This helps to make her style even more unique. The red bodysuit is from Urban Behavior and the black belt is thrifted. I chose to go with an off-white wall in one of the alleys along the street because I really wanted the bright colours of this summer outfit to pop! I love how Camillie has pulled the red together by adding the sunglasses and having the small red detailing on the shoes. Doing this really helps to make a complete look that’s ready for the beach or a local festival.

Red Camille with big red bag in Abbottsford British ColumbiaLastly we have Camillie, again, showing us a different side of her fashion personality. This more dressy look is perfect for a summer date or afternoon tea in the garden. The flowers in the background add a fresh feel to the street and really help to the the dress stand out. Camillie loves to have statement pieces which is why this Red Madison Tote from Shop J&G for $56 is perfect for her. The dress she is wearing from Zara. She may love a statement piece but she knows when enough is enough, which is why she has paired this outfit with a set of nude platform heels. The heels and purse together give Camillie the perfect amount of statement.

Fraser Valley’s fashion is truly complex, and I haven’t even started to show you half of it. If you want to get the full feel come down to Montrose avenue in Abbotsford, grab a cup of coffee and a pastry from one of our local shops, and see for yourself just how diverse our summer fashion is!

Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful in Lethbridge Alberta

By Sarah, Miss Teenage Cardston County 2017

What is beauty? Beauty is not something that you have, or you don’t have. Each one of us has unique beauty within us. I simply couldn’t decide on just one outfit, as beauty is not just one look. So I picked three outfits, that displays: Comfort, Elegance, and Confidence. All three are important aspects to being your own kind of beautiful.

Comfort.
Comfort is key. Often girls believe that to be beautiful they must be uncomfortable, this is false. Beauty comes from within, and that is why it is so incredibly important that you wear clothes that make you feel comfortable.

Elegance.
As Audrey Hepburn once said, “Elegance is the only beauty, that never fades.” I absolutely love this quote. Elegance is beautiful. I feel that more often than not, elegance is classified as “old” or maybe “mature” which yes, it can. However elegance is for all ages. Whether you are 14 or 80, elegance is beautiful on everyone. I personally love simple outfits, as it draws more attention to the person who is wearing it, not the other way around. We all know the saying, “Pretty in Pink” well this dress is a perfect example. The way the skirt flows makes elegance and style tie together, making a beautiful outfit. Let’s not forget about the necklace now. I personally love this necklace, it’s so classy and versatile. It can be worn with so many different outfits! Overall I think this necklace is the perfect way to complete the look of elegance.Miss Teen Cardston Co freind cheerleader

Confidence
What is more beautiful than seeing a girl who is confident?! I personally think the most admirable trait of a girl, is when she is confident in who she is and what she looks like. A question we all have been asked by either a friend, a family member, or even a stranger is, “How do I look?” I’m not going to sit here and pretend I don’t ask others this same question, but my question is… Why do we seem to always ask this question again and again? In today’s society we are taught that our self worth is determined on how others view us. This needs to change! But how? First, you need to realize that no matter how much someone will compliment you, the only person who can make you feel confident is you. It is essential that you are doing it for yourself, no one else. This outfit is so unique and different, in displaying true confidence through its pattern and style. It is important that the outfit you wear makes you feel confident, don’t wear it for someone else, wear it for yourself. As I said before, wear something you want to wear, because in the end you are the only one who can truly make yourself feel confident.

Genavieve evening promenade fashion in Winnipeg Manitoba

Beauty and Fashion on Bannatyne Street in Winnipeg

By Genavieve, Miss Teen Manitoba 2017

It was such an honour to be crowned Miss Teenage Manitoba 2017. Holding this title involves participating in charity events, fundraisers, galas, and especially getting to know and getting involved with the people of Manitoba. One of the topics I wanted to find out more about was Manitoba’s fashion sense, so I chose to investigate Bannatyne street in the Exchange District in Winnipeg, Manitoba where there are frequent theater performances, parties, art galas and much more take place. I chose this street because there is lots of diversity, culture and acceptance in the Exchange District and Bannatyne street is right in the heart of it all. You can wear just about anything in this area of Winnipeg from laid back and comfortable to very classy and uptight, and it all just adds to it’s colourful and unique character. There is always something to do and things to see in the Exchange District. So, of course, I just had to pay the area a visit on a warm Friday evening and see what styles people were wearing.

I selected four individuals who really stuck out to me. They stuck out of course because they were wearing very unique outfits, but they also had a very confident air about them and big smiles on their faces. I really appreciated this because they obviously felt beautiful and if you feel beautiful on the inside, you look beautiful on the outside. I was very interested in what these lovely ladies had to say about their sense of style.

Meet Erika

Street Chic in Manitoba

The first beautiful lady I got to meet was Erika. Erika is a thriving and passionate business owner who owns the Magic Room in downtown Winnipeg. The Magic Room is a nail salon, a spa and a cosmetic store all in one building. It is also the original Magic Room and was the first store in Winnipeg to do facials, waxing, and nail care. Erika got her Masters of Business Administration in fashion in Paris. Erika was wearing a beautiful white sheer bodysuit underneath a pleated front zip grey skirt with faux snake skin black block heel boots and black ankle socks. She bought all of her clothes about a year ago. Erika describes her style as classic and trendy.

Get Erika’s look:
White Body Suit from Holt Renfrew and designer Wolfard: $200
Grey Skirt from Club Monaco: $150
Boots from Browns: $200

Meet Gorete:

Her style is very colourful and she likes to mix and match different outfits, shoes and jewelry. Gorete was wearing a stunning white lacy dress, pink shoes with a rainbow heel and a matching pink handbag. She also wore a very nice stone necklace and earrings.

Meet Ira:
Ira looking orange in downtown WinnipegI was so amazed when I saw Ira at how she made a pair of old ripped jeans look so classy! Ira is a technical designer. She describes her style as “boho meets off duty rockstar.” She also loves to stand out, but likes to keep things more comfortable. Ira wore a loose and very light weight orange and white shirt that tied up at the front. She paired it with black ripped jeans and faux alligator skin and leather black shoes with bright orange socks. She also held a faux alligator skin purse. She bought all of her clothes in Montreal.

Kelly in sheer gown on Manitoba sidewalkI loved Kelly’s style so much I couldn’t help but ask her about it. Although Kelly’s outfit looks very classy and expensive, she actually created most of her outfit from hand-me-downs, so some of it is unknown. Kelly wore a beautiful sheer white dress that buttoned up and tied up at the front. She got this as a hand me down from her step mother. She is also wearing black sandals and carrying a black leather handbag. Kelly describes her style as preppy but feminine. Kelly’s look is perfect for any setting and any occasion.

Get Kelly’s look:
White Dress from Armony: $50

And lastly, Genavieve (me)!

My name is Genavieve. I am 17 years old and have been crowned Miss Teenage Manitoba 2017. I am going into Grade 12 at Glenlawn Collegiate in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I hope to go into forensic psychology and one day become an RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) officer. I want to make a difference in the world in everything I do, so I thought that this would be the best career for me. I am currently working at a spa in Winnipeg as a skin health sales associate and have also worked in different clothing stores because it is very important for me to ensure that people always feel their best and I want to empower people to feel confident in themselves and to embrace their individual unique qualities. I would describe my style as sometimes sporty and sometimes preppy.

I am wearing a burgundy tight fitted knit dress and rainbow high heeled shoes. Burgundy dress from Garage: $10
Rainbow Heels from Designer Shoe Warehouse: $60

Genavieve in Winnipeg Manitoba

I noticed that the style here seems to be big shoes and big purses! I want to make sure that people know that you absolutely don’t need to spend a fortune to look beautiful. As long as you feel confident and feel good in your own skin, that’s really all that matters. Love yourself for who you are and don’t let anyone tell you that you need to change the way you look or dress. You are beautiful. “The more you are like yourself, the less you are like anyone else which makes you unique” -Walt Disney

Kayla country girl on Queen St in New Brunswick

East Coast Girl on Queen Street in New Brunswick

By Breanna, Miss Teen Maritimes 2017

On a beautiful Wednesday evening on Queen St in New Brunswick, I was able to take some lovely shots of Kayla.  She was so nice to have taken the time to do a mini photo shoot. Although she’s actually really used to it, considering she’s modeled for Facade International, and is very talented as well as beautiful. Her modelling career is going great! But this girl is also very intelligent. She’s hoping to become a lawyer and go to college in the upcoming years. However, before she does all that, she dreams of taking a year off. The reason would surprise you. She said, ” I want to take a year off first to go on a humanitarian trip to Africa to help the less fortunate because I feel like I’ve been very blessed in life and should give back”. And if you know Kayla like I do, you know that she’s crazy for pageants. She’s always done them and will hopefully continue on! So far, she’s been in 4 pageants. Luckily, she’s got her family there to support her. She has a mother and a father, 2 brothers and 2 rabbits. She’s got an amazing personality and she’s got a lot to offer the world!

As you can see by the outstanding pictures, Kayla is wearing such a beautiful outfit. This is her style and she wears this kind of thing all the time. Starting with her glasses, they are very cute and goes really well with the whole look. They are Michael Kors and these glasses are a bit metallic and original. For their high quality, the glasses she is wearing for this look are worth 360$.

Kayla’s top is actually not from Canada. She bought it for approximately 49$ from Calvin Klein in New York, US when she went dress shopping for one of her pageants! It has this beautiful navy-blue tone to it with white cross lines. Also known as plaid. There are a few buttons in the middle of the shirt. And unlike some tops, they are workable and aren’t sewed on only for looks. She’s worn it multiple times, I don’t blame her because it goes really good with her hair.

Moving on to her casual long black skinny jeans, they were purchased at Garage in Moncton, NB. Almost as expensive as the top, these 62% cotton jeans where around 50$. Luckily these jeans have pockets that are not sewed on. Even though there aren’t any big designs on them, the dark black colour made it match really nicely with the top. So, this girl really knows how to mix and match!

For the beautiful sandals that Kayla’s wearing, they seem to be a very beautifully, silky texture. They were also bought in Moncton, NB at La Vie en Rose in the mall. The price of these are surprisingly low considering how lovely they are and how comfortable they are made. And the bright white makes them stand out from the outfit and gives it a little bit of colour, like the shirt.

This young lady isn’t wearing much for accessories, but she does have a black hair tie located on her wrist. Because that’s just how it is with us girls with long hair, always have to have one close by! All the pieces of clothing the beautiful Kayla has chosen for this specific purpose, go perfectly together and you could never go wrong with this look! You could also wear it pretty much anywhere since it’s causal yet a bit sophisticated. And hopefully it has given other girls maybe an idea of what could suit them.

Brown pants and shirt and hair in Montreal

The Browner The Better in Montreal

By Allison, Miss Teenage Montreal 2017

Fashion! Yes, you’ve heard it. Because everyone likes to look stylish once in a while.  Am I wrong ?

In my hometown of Montreal, I saw this beautiful lady walking down the street with this type of retro style and… I felt in love with it! It was Wednesday of last week. We were near Kent Park, very close to l’Hôpital Général Juif in Côtes-des-neiges. She and her husband, Alfred seemed lost when I approached them. She smelt like peaches and other fruits and she told me she was wearing some dolce and Gabana mixed with a less expensive product. I thought she was a model because of her beautiful face. I got to know her a little bit and later, I took a picture of her.

Brown pants and shirt and hair in Montreal

The Queen of Brown

Her name is Elizabeth, but everyone calls her Elly. She is currently studying in communications in Italy and she has come to Montreal for a vacation. When younger, she used to model clothes, but stopped five years ago. At that time, she met Alfred, a handsome blue-eyed men with blond hair. They are currently planning their wedding for next year. Elizabeth is also anxious to visit the Old-Port of Montreal and to try our poutine. She’s always dreamed of visiting here.

The first thing that attracted me was her look was the deliberate combination of browns. These brown jeans give her an elegant look especially when combined with her brown boots. Her high-heeled boots in false leather fit with her brown, sort of squared sunglasses. Combined with her long white sleeve shirt, she is gorgeous. This look is Retro Style, with her belly showing a little bit under her shirt.

Retro styles from Italy

Except her sunglasses, all the clothing she had on her was bought in Italy. Her pants cost approximately fifty euros and her shirt twenty-five euros. She bought both of them two years ago, during her trip to Milan, Italy. Her boots were at least seventy-five euros and more. She received the brown bag as a gift from her uncle at Christmas last year.

When she turned twenty-nine, she went to celebrate her birthday with some friends in Germany. Elly  was enjoying her day, entering in expensive places and trying out every clothing in the store. Her sunglasses cost around fifty-five Canadian dollars if converted. Her sunglasses remind her about that day when she also dressed like a men while her husband was trying some new hauls.

Elizabeth got her long, round and metallic earrings from Zara, also in Italy. Her necklace was a gift of her grandmother for her future wedding.

Her curly dark brown hair is well arranged in her half up half down hairstyle. In addition, her brown bag matches with her sunglasses and her boots. What a combination of brown colours!

To conclude, here is my thought of the day; Make your own Fashion. It’s all about creating, innovating and being artistic. Fashion is not just about what brand you are wearing, it is a combination of colours, materials and confidence that makes you look fabulous.

Casual Fashion in downtown Toronto 2017 on Queen St

Casual Fashion on Queen Street in Toronto

By Yanna, Miss Teen GTA 2017

Fashion comes and goes, as all things in life. One style of clothing, hair, or even behavior fades away and is replaced with another, however, what I see is eternal is our personal styles that defines and creates each of us unique. One’s said by Coco Chanel,

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

With these ideas in mind, I was constantly contemplating what street in Toronto truly expresses both diversity and chic, but also allows each individual to be free in their style and choices without social strains – Queen Street. Form all of the other fashion districts in Toronto, I felt that Queen Street is one of those chic streets, where you can literary find anything you are looking for. It has been part of the Toronto Fashion District, as a result of the large garment industry in the area, where numerous textiles, fabric factories, and warehouses were close to many rail lines making it easy to ship the garments throughout various cities. Although there are still numerous garment warehouses and clothing outlets on Queen Street, today it has been refurbished into a street full of musicians, artists, small galleries, condos, lofts, and murals. It is also one of those streets that has both old Victorian and new glass buildings, that inspire magic and creativity.

Walking down Queen Street and you will see all sorts of styles, from the elegant to hipster locks that truly reflect the diversity of the street. Below is a selection of a group of individuals I found in some of the pockets on Queen Street and side streets full of murals, where I have demonstrated their unique styles and personalities. I have interviewed and photographed each individual, who among their differences all use fashion to express themselves.

Christina on Queen St in Toronto Christina is 17 years old student going into her last year at Humberside Collegiate Institute. She loves being involved in various student run clubs at her school, and she is on various sports teams throughout the year. She loves shop thrift shopping and to recycle clothing and incorporate it into today’s fashion trends. Just recently she has turned recycling old clothes into a small business with her best friend and hopes one day she can create it into a large production and design brand. She also loves Queen Street, because of its diversity and is one of her most favorite hangout locations with her friends.

One-day Christina would like to travel the whole world, since she loves discovering new places and pockets of various large cities. She is a very creative person and one day she would like to build her own house by the beach and live luxuriously enough to continue enjoy her fashion.

Get the look

  • Top – Thrifted (around $5)
  • Shorts – American Eagle Outfitters ($29+ tax)
  • Necklace – ALDO ($8+ tax)
  • Shoes – Vans ($59+ tax)

What does Christina think about today’s fashion?

She believes that modern fashion in Toronto is very bold and “trail blazing”, and she absolutely loves seeing all the fun prints and cuts. With the humid summers in Toronto, she finds breezy clothing most appealing, and with this season tube tops and off the shoulder shirts that seem to be very popular, she has recycled many of her old clothing to make it fit with today’s trends. Christina also finds that Toronto’s fashion is much more laid back, and many Torontonians tend to rely on sporty apparels that are easily incorporated into today’s trends, as “my classic white vans that go with everything”.

Kat , a young fashionable aboriginal womain in Canada, against a red brick wall Kat is 17 years old and enjoys writing posts on her blog O SO VOGUE, and she loves photography. She is also very passionate about leading an active lifestyle and goes to the gym around four times a week mainly focusing on weight training and calisthenics. Her dream is to travel the world and experience as many new things as possible, most importantly to embrace life’s beauty. Next year she is planning a huge backpacking trip around Europe.

What does Kat think about today’s fashion?

Kat created her O SO VOGUE blog to share her opinions, tips, and tricks about fashion, make-up, fitness, and beauty with the world. On her blog there are many recipes, fitness tips and pictures, make-up and beauty posts, but mostly fashion. Although she enjoys today’s fashion, she is displeased with the poor choices students have with backpacks. She believes that over the past years nylon backpacks are unpractical and easily rip, so now on her blog she has been trying to promote leather and many of its qualities and use in the fashion world.

Marko in casual fashion wear on Queen Toronto

Marko has just finished high school and is determined to pursue a career in music. He regularly creates music videos and has his own YouTube channel. Beside his music passion and spending time in the recording studio, he plays basketball or watches movies. His life goal is to be able to live off being an artist, who is able to share and express his ideas about the world to the public.

Get the look

  • Pants – Thrifted (no-named brands)
  • Shoes – Adidas

What does Marko think about today’s fashion?

“To be honest, I know nothing about fashion, I have no idea about designers or brands or any of the stuff.” Even though, Marko does not have many ideas about fashion nor does he wear any brands, since most of his clothes are bought through thrift shopping or no name brands (except for some Adidas sneakers or timberland shoes). Nevertheless, he represents a perfect example of the diversity of styles that can be found on Queen Street.

Although, no name brands to some might not constitute as fashion, I would argue differently because it is important that individuals are not defined by brands or modern fashion trends that undermine their character. Which I believe Marko was trying to state with his style choice in choosing no named brands, since with no named brands “I am able to express myself in a more creative and personal way, that truly reflects me as an individual, which I also try to do through my music.”

Angel in Toronto in white top with denim skirtAngel is 17 years old student going into her last year at University of Toronto Schools. She believes that she is your basic teenage stereotype with a “Starbucks addiction, gimmicky Instagram food, and Netflix binging problem”. Besides all the basics, she loves to dance, write, go to debates, and she is an avid supporter for many social justice issues. Above everything, she loves to shop, even though she believes that she “spends way too much time and money on clothing”.

Get the look

  • Top – Hollister Cop.
  • Shorts – Abercrombie & Fitch
  • Belt – H&M
  • Shoes – Adidas

What does Angel think about today’s fashion?

Angel believes that fashion is a perfect way to express yourself for the world to see. She believes that today’s fashion is quickly expanding and feels things that people would have dissed in the past, such as mom jeans or slides, are making a comeback. However, what she particularly adores about today’s trends is that “now more than ever people can make choices about clothing that suit them, that’s why I like Queen Street because it has many unique things to explore”.

gypsy girl fashion flower in toronto on Queen - hipster fashionNevena is 17 years old and is also going into her last year of high school. For the past ten years she has been going to Serbian folklore at SCA Oplenac (Mississauga, Ontario), in order to preserve the traditional dances from her native country. Nevena loves to follow fashion trends and believes each era of fashion, as today’s fashion has its own unique magic. She is always open to new things, so when it comes to fashion there is almost nothing she does not like. With today’s fashion and bright colors, she feels that it gives her an opportunity to express herself even more, by combining different things together. Even though she follows regular fashion trends, she chooses clothes that reflect her, thus allowing her to create a slightly unique style of her own, as she states “I first want to feel comfortable and reflect my character”.

Vilde is on ed brick wall in Toronto

Vilde is a first-year university student for international relations, Vilde is aspiring to be a diplomat, specializing in global health that will primarily focus on children in South and Central America. In today’s fashion, Vilde believes that it allows a lot of self-expression and it allows many to explore and find their perfect style. She feels that “fashion of today is perfectly portrayed on this street [Queen Street]”; as Queen Street she feels todays trends are a mixture of the old and the new, and as music and art they have become very expressive and individualized.

Jovana is 17 years old and is also going into last year of high school. Jovana is passionate about languages and she is currently learning French, Italian, and Persian. In her spare time, Jovana loves to dance salsa and tango and a few years ago she played water polo for over three years. Jovana also enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with her friends, and listening to rock music, as David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Metallica, Guns N’ Rosses, and many more. What does Jovana think about today’s fashion?

“To be honest, I don’t really like today’s fashion trends, so I have stopped following it.” Jovana does not like today’s fashion, since she believes it isn’t very innovative. Jovana feels that many of the styles have already been seen (particularly trends in 2016 and 2017) are merely imitating fashion of the 90’s. Jovana instead follows things that she likes, and she would say that her style is more “sport-rocker elegance”, since she loves wearing boots and leather jackets.

She loves today’s fashion and also enjoys to follow popular fashion trends. She is very happy with today’s fashion, primarily because it allows her to freely express herself and her personality. As it is seen in her fashion choice, she likes to combine dark colors with light colors that accent specific details of her outfit, in this case the bright colored flowers. Because of the hot summers in Toronto and this year’s fashion, she is able to enjoy the over the shoulder tops, which she believes add both elegance and chic to her personal style.

Bringing Out Your Inner Beauty in London Ontario

by Miana, Miss Teenage Ontario 2017

Society often conforms to copy the latest styles and trends of today’s fashion icons. I believe its essential to pull inspiration for all of our role models, and create a look that highlights our individuality. In order to look good, it really is important that you feel your best in what you’re wearing that day or occasion. These are my 3 most useful tips when pulling together a masterpiece and staying true to yourself. I like to call this the guide, Bringing Out Your Inner Beauty.

I am showcasing an outfit on myself, Miana aka Miss Teenage Ontario 2017, which is a true reflection of my style and my personality. I’m an 18 year old who just graduated from high school and is ready to take on the world. Although my generation is heavily influenced by all types of media, I’d like to believe I’ve managed to dress in a fashion that is truly expressive of who I am. Following my 3-step guide, I composed this “Playful Couture” look.

Miana’s Guide to Picking the Perfect Outfit

My three step fashion guide can be followed for any occasion.

  1. Follow Your Vision

Principally, choose what emotion/mood you want to convey depending how you feel, whether it’s a mature look, a careless vibe, or even a sassy style. With this in mind, you will know exactly what’s working while searching for the perfect outfit, and definitely know what isn’t right. This vibe comes from within, but will be showcased, as your vision becomes a reality while creating this outfit.

While creating my “Playful Couture” look, I focused on bringing out my inner confidence. I wanted to create a mature look, while still bringing out my playful side. A stunning clothing boutique named “Jordan Stewart”, in my hometown, London, Ontario gave me the privilege to shop around their beautiful store for the perfect outfit. They have fairytale dresses, sophisticated jumpsuits and show stopping two pieces, which made choosing this outfit a little challenging. But, I remembered to stay true to Step 1 of my guide, and I was able to pick an outfit that was reflective of my inner confidence, while remaining playful yet sophisticated.

  1. Stay True To You

Secondly, while concentrating on your desired feel of the outfit, keep in mind that not every article of clothing will be perfect for you. Choose pieces that highlight your shape and complexion in order to make you shine. Choose to accentuate your curves, waist or even make your neckline the focal point. Remember that YOU are the artwork and your outfit is only adding to the beauty that it lays upon. It is essential to stay patient while shopping or trying on outfits so that you can optimize your experience.

In my opinion, this step is my favourite because it really allows you to be authentic. While trying on many different outfits at Jordan Stewart, this bold two-piece fit like glove and felt so right. I love the fact that the pink and white contrasts so nicely on my bronzed skin. These bright colours are not only a reflection of my inner character, but also my positive outlook on life. I chose to accentuate my waistline by wearing this peaking cropped shirt with the matching high waist pant. I love how this outfit resembles a mature pantsuit, yet is so playful as there is a flowy ruffle overlaying the top. This two-piece is named, “Where is Ken”, referring to the playfulness of it, likewise to Barbie. This fit is so seamless as it is Polyester and is the perfect outfit for a summer day being so light and airy as well.

  1. Perfect your masterpiece

Following your vision, and staying true to you will make this last step effortless. At this point, you will have an outfit that matches your desired mood while being mindful of what works for your individuality. Perfecting your masterpiece is your overall feeling from within. You must feel proud of who you are and how you are representing yourself for the occasion. It is essential not to seek acceptance from others, but to find the beauty in your own fashion. To pull your look together, find accessories that compliment your vision.

When completing my look, I knew it was perfect for me by the way I felt in it. This outfit radiates positivity and is a perfect match. Now that I am confident with the clothes I’m accentuating my body with, it’s time to further accessorize. I have chosen to pair this outfit up with a simple silver strapped 3.5” heel for added shine. I also chose a chunky silver watch to accent the amazing checkered pattern. Lastly, I put on pair of simple silver hoops to keep this look timeless. This outfit was the statement piece alone, so the simple silver accessories just embellish this “Playful Couture” look.

Shoes: Casper D’Orsay with Ankle Strap Heels in Silver by Bamboo

Watch: Marciano

An amazing local photographer, Ivan, captured this “Playful Couture” style in the downtown of the city I was born and raised in, London, Ontario. Our downtown runs all through Richmond Street, therefore we call it Richmond Row. Richmond Row has immensely inspired this look because it is full of all my favourite places, from the best vegan restaurants and cutest coffee shops, all the way to my favourite clothing boutique, Jordan Stewart. Another special part about Richmond Row is that there is the most beautiful park named, Victoria Park, where exciting festivals are held all summer. This perfect outfit was captured in July, the ideal season to rock this outfit in the park at the Food Festival or at the Sun festival. All of these amusing activities have helped shape this outfit and inspired it to be truly playful.

All in all, each outfit you wear should be a reflection of your personal inner beauty, rather than just following trends. Create your own looks to showcase your courageous individuality that way you can always walk with confidence.

Hometown Fashion in Stephenville Newfoundland

by Jessica, Miss Teen East Coast 2017

When I first arranged this photo session with my girls, I’m not sure what they were more excited about, the fact they got to dress up in the fanciest clothes they could find, or that they were both going to have a million pictures they could post on Instagram. They are absolutely incredible, and a big thank-you goes out to the both of them for not only doing this for me, but doing it so well.

Mackenzie, is 17 years old, and her favorite sports are volleyball and running away from her phone when I’m looking for her. She has the face of an angel and a heart just as pure. Mackenzie, or Kenz is one of the kindest souls I’ve ever met, but her saucy personality will always keep you laughing.  She’s one of my greatest friends, and I do not know where I’d be without her.

Kenz golden hour in Stephensville

She jumped at the chance to dress up, even if it was only for a couple pictures, as we both work with a kids’ summer program and make-up is a foreign object that is not heard of while working with kids. She jumped out of her athletic wear and into a gorgeous piece by Nightway. This long romper is composed of a composition of a form fitting top and lose bottom, 95% polyester and 5% spandex blend this is the perfect jumpsuit for casual or a more fancy occasion. The wide straps make the fit comfortable, while the mesh deep v-neck gives this jumpsuit style and flare, the form fitting waist line accentuates the waist to give her an incredible shape. The flow from the hips to the ankles give this piece sophistication, the black is, well- black will always be the best color to wear. This piece was purchased from Winners for a price of $49.99, on her feet was a chunky, floral wedge from Spring.

Kenze in floral dress in Stephensville NewfoundlandSarah; 18 years old, I don’t know what she enjoys more; spending money on makeup or David’s Tea, but she will make you laugh until your stomach cramps without even trying it. Sarah has been a best friend since we were younger and never will there ever be a dull moment with this sweetheart, still she is one of the kindest humans I know and I cherish our friendship to the highest.

Where she works as a life guard, also at the summer program with me and Mackenzie, she was thrilled at the chance to dress up. Sarah slipped into a stunning black summer dress, thick straps again for comfort, an elastic at the waist to accentuate her amazing waist line, a lace finish all around the bottom for style and an open back concept to bring out the true feeling of summer. This polyester and spandex blend was purchased at Garage for a retail price of $39.99. This dress was just as flattering as fun for Sarah but it was the floral kimono that truly brought out her personality. The black kimono with white and pink accented flowers gave the look a flow and pulled forward Sarah’s outgoing and incredible personality, the pictures surly speak a thousand words. The kimono was purchased from Pseudio, a 95% polyester and 5% spandex blend was made by My Beloved and purchased for a sale price of $29.99. On her feet were a strappy black velvet sandal with a small chunky heel that tied up the ankle.

“In the streets of my hometown” I wanted to take this phrase abstract and literally. First I took the girls to Port Harmon, for those of you that have not visited Stephenville, this may be the most popular place to take an evening drive, walk, cycle, even roller blade. It is a very long road along the shoreline that leads to a smaller area of cabins and a dock for larger shipping vessels. Since we came from a fishing community I thought this would be a good place to have the girls show off their fashion and also represent where we came from. We started taking pictures here around 8:30 pm because the sun was not completely set and it made for an excellent background to the pictures, the mood was perfect.

late summer nights in Stephensville Newfoundland fashion promenadeAround 9:15 pm we relocated to Bruce Boulevard Street when there was still some light left in the sky but the flash on the camera could bring out the girls to highlight their outfits rather than the surroundings. This street is where our high school is located, Stephenville High School. After just graduating high school in June, it made me realize that most people in my town spent the better part of four years in this building, whether they were a good or bad experience it will always be a place people remember. So, having the girls model in the dusk on this street was also a good representation of our small town. The simplicity of just houses, cars, and street lamps in the background really just capture the small town feel, we are not very extravagant in Stephenville but still special in our own way.

I’m sure I had just as much fun taking pictures of these girls as they did getting their pictures taken, never do I stop laughing when I’m with these two dolls. It was such a fun, different experience and I love how much this journey has influenced me to try new and exciting things. Jess

Casual Fashion in Kensington Village, Calgary

By Emily, Miss Teen North Calgary 2017

Fashion is one of the most personal forms of expression. Since my style has always been different, I’ve never really fallen into a specific category with my wardrobe. Through first and last days of school, bowties and ‘DIY’ jewelry, I’ve learned that getting creative with your attire can make a lasting impression wherever you go.

Traveling anywhere in the world will give you the opportunity to explore new looks and ideas in regards to what fashion is. It could be defined by what the hottest celebrities are wearing, or simply by what makes you feel your absolute best. You can find Inspiration for your wardrobe anywhere; the mall, Instagram, and even your friends and family. I have personally always admired the styles of Julia and Sarah, two talented and successful girls who are taking the world by storm.

While working full time as a restaurant chef, Julia doesn’t have many opportunities to get creative with her style. Therefore when she isn’t in uniform, she fully embraces her chance to make a statement with her fashion. On the other hand, Sarah works full time as a Nanny, which creates more opportunities to get creative with her wardrobe. Nevertheless, when the two girls aren’t working, they take to the streets of Kensington Village, just north of Downtown Calgary to relax, grab a coffee, and express their own personal styles.

white tube top and ripped denim blue jeansOne of Julia’s favourite go-to looks is a $45 simple white tube top from Aritzia and a pair of $67 stylishly ripped light wash American Eagle jeans. She’s paired this look with ($25) 3” chunky heeled sandals from Walmart and a $35 matching black cross shoulder bag from Garage. This edgy and inexpensive look never fails to get Julia feeling ready to take on whatever the day will hold.fashion pink shirt jeans in Calgary

Sarah’s first outfit consists of a $30 fitted bright pink shirt with a triangle-shaped keyhole neckline that she purchased from express, which she paired with classic $75 dark blue jeans from Guess, some stylish $120 light brown leather block heels from Steve Madden and a matching $50 brown purse from Spring.

pink dres, casual wear in Kensengton Village, CalgaryAnother look you can find Julia in frequently is this beautifully feminine $25 pastel pink wraparound dress. Tying the dress in the front with a bow completes the look and provides a fun and flirty feeling. It was purchased from Winners for $25. Pairing this dress with $80 white converse gives this dress a relaxed and casual vibe.

rasutant exterior fashion in Calgary red skirt and pink topSarah enjoys dressing it up with a stylish $45 white v-neck bodysuit from Aritzia, as well as a bright red $35 pencil skirt purchased from the same store. The bright colours in this look give Sarah the perfect summer style. She completed the look with some beautiful blue $40 heeled sandals purchased from Lulus.

on the street, jeans and top in CalgaryThis last look is classy and perfect for any summer outing. The $45 black off the shoulder shirt from Dynamite is dotted with a white and pink flowers print and has a looser fit to keep you cooler longer in the hot Calgarian sun. The sleeves on the shirt are complete with a slit running down the outer arm. Julia paired this look with $67 blue jeans from American Eagle, and some fashion forward $75 loafer style shoes from Aldo. She worked the same black bag into this new look, which proves just how versatile fashion can be.

white cotton dress with scoop neckline

The dress that Sarah is wearing in this final photo was only $30 that she bought from Forever 21 It is an elegant white fitted dress with a scoop neckline. She added to the summery look with an adorable pendant necklace from Hawaii. She completed the look with some navy blue tie up heels that she purchased for $40 from Lulus.

I believe that fashion is undoubtedly defined by you. Wear what makes you feel beautiful, and wear it with pride. “Style is very personal, it has nothing to do with fashion, fashion is over quickly. Style is forever.” -Ralph Lauren

Fashion time on Renfrew

Fashion on Raglan Street in Renfrew Ontario

By Sophia,  Miss Teenage Eastern Ontario 2017

Take one historical street in small town Eastern Ontario, add a selection of unique boutiques offering a variety of fashion choices, compliment it with a selection of wonderful women from various generations and you have a snapshot of Fashion in the Valley!

Renfrew Ave and Raglan St.Raglan Street in Renfrew, Ontario will provide you with just that mix!  The street itself has been in existence since the early 1800s and although obviously transformed over the decades it remains the hub for exceptional fashion in the Valley.  The architectural structures can date back to the late 1800s and today’s merchants have enhanced the historical features and have captured the essence of yesteryear in their store facades.  Strolling down Raglan Street (main street Renfrew) is a lovely way to spend an afternoon and certainly personifies STREET CHIC in the fashions that can be found in this hidden Valley gem!

Chanto & Co. sewing studio, knitting supplies store on Renfrew

Chanto & Co. started out as a business providing intricate seamstress services and has transformed into a beautiful storefront offering a wide selection of gowns; wedding, prom and special occasion in addition to the seamstress services.

Abby in front of Chanto Co grocery store

Abby is a student at Algonquin College in Ottawa and often shops on Raglan Street in Renfrew.  Abby is wearing a gorgeous teal embellished Ellie Wilde gown which retails for $498.00.

Blue Florasl Dress at Chanto & CoI couldn’t let the opportunity go by without modelling one of these amazing gowns as well.  I found a memorable blue floral  MORILEE gown that I fell in love with.  The gown retails for $498.00 and would be a show-stopper at prom or gracing  a pageant runway.

Venturing down Raglan Street I came upon one of the oldest family owned businesses in existence in Renfrew; Scott’s Shoe Store.

Scotts Shoes on Raglawn in Renfrew Ontario

Scott’s Shoe Store has been serving people for over 123 years!  The store has transformed over the years from focusing just on footwear to include a full line of active wear and offers all of the main line sports designers.

Scotts Shoe Golfcourse attire

I put together a complete head to toe  outfit featuring Adidas leggings, Columbia shirt, matching orange Birkenstocks and topped off with a must-have Columbia cap.  The complete outfit would retail for $189.65.  I am ready for the Golf Course!

#8 Keeping Company in Renfrew Ontario

Then it was into Keeping Company & Ella’s fashions; a lovely shop featuring beautiful gifts, jewelry and a complete array of high end fashion pieces featuring Joseph Ribkoff dresses.

Renfrew fashion, black Josef Ribkoff dress with tiger stripe highlights

I found Gladys in the store looking for a dress for an upcoming wedding. Gladys is a retired school teacher and an avid volunteer in the community.  At 78 years of age she looks youthful and absolutely styling in her newly acquired black Josef Ribkoff dress with tiger stripe highlights.  The dress retails for $98.89.

Dash of Fab The next stop on my Raglan Street fashion discovery tour was a gorgeous boutique called DASH of FAB!  The store is aptly named!  It features a variety of fashion lines from LA and New York, wonderful accessories and a lovely selection of handbags and wallets.  Guess who I found at Dash of Fab?  My friend and cancer survivor Paige.

Paige was trying on a fun and comfortable fuchsia pink dress with a bright coloured shawl-like off the shoulder neckline.  Absolutely adorable!  Meeting Paige outside the store and accompanying Paige in the photo in their full uniform (their compulsory fashion attire) are two of the area’s Police officers.  A true “street shot!”

Pick It Fence, fashion in Renfrew

I talked Paige into joining me for the remainder of my tour to be my fashion consultant!  We had a great time visiting PICK IT FENCE, a lovely store that features a selection of fashions and gift items.

Mary was in Pick It Fence looking for a fun and comfortable everyday outfit so we helped her choose this eye-catching outfit; a pair of brightly printed leggings, a classic white tee with shoulder cutouts and topped it off with the large stone necklace.  The entire outfit came in at just under $56.00!

Shoe Lounge on Raglawn in Renfrew

Then it was off to The Shoe Lounge, a quaint and classy shop featuring fashion forward footwear and accessories.

I had to model these unique MAEL boots hand made in Quebec, individually painted and shellacked.  They are a MUST HAVE for me!

Paige is modelling her favourite; Steve Madden Softies;  fun, comfy and oh so cute!

I just couldn’t get enough of the shoes and had to have a photo taken in their fun shoe chair that is out on the street in the summer months for promotional purposes.

Check how my Simon Cheng bag, my KISS/KISS boots and my Eye to Eye sunglasses all match perfectly with the chair!  Takes Street Chic to a whole new level.

Heartsong Yoga

Our last stop on the Raglan Street tour was Heartsong Yoga.  What an incredibly special store.  The shop features fashions and accessories from all over the world, all handcrafted and organic.

I chose this fun and funky handmade dress and scarf from India.  I love the way the material feels and the colours are so vibrant.  You can’t help but to feel happy in this dress!  A true find at $64.99!

Venturing into small town Valley shops is a definite must for fashion adventurers.  I guarantee you will find incredible deals, high fashion designers, locally made items and  some very unique fashion choices.  Visit Raglan Street in Renfrew and you will also get to meet some of the nicest people in the retail industry.
