styling a noble savage for a singles event in Mississauga

Laura Bilotta Styles a Noble Savage to debut Wing Woman Paint Night

Laura Bilotta, the matron of Ontario’s largest singles event company and speed dating enterprise, Single in the City tried something new on Thursday 5th April, 2018 when she teamed up with Julia Chatterji of The Studio Paint Bar to stage a womens’-only Paint Night in Mississauga.  All this was new to the firm;  an official ‘women’s only’ event has never before been attempted (with tickets sold online – Laura did once invite female members to watch The Bachelor at a bar in Oakville, but tickets were sold at the door). More significantly, Laura Bilotta has never before tried a Paint Night.

Without question, the event was an unqualified success.  Twelve ladies shared plenty of laughs while painting a jewellery clad caveman on a 16 x 20-inch canvas.  It was an interesting experience filled with creative instruction. The activity yielded immense satisfaction as the twelve ladies communicated their own perceptions of the subject on their canvases.

Martin waits to be painted at Paint Night in Mississauga

The male model was a young man named Martin Dasko, a semi professional wrestler who performs as The Latin Lover, and is also the author a popular student finance blog, Studenomics. He said afterwards that it was the strangest thing he’s done in a while, and it made him feel sexy.

Paint Nights are very stimulating for all participants. The simple act of painting a pretty picture tickles the primary motor cortex of the brain which makes friendly people even more receptive to social programming. Its Julia’s belief that this healthy activity streamlines the complicated act of making new friends. Painting breaks down barriers, and the people who came out that evening soon found themselves relaxed and having a good time.

The Male Model was Made More Adorable by Jennifer Turner of Modern Makeup

The handsome Martin Dasko of Studenomics was specifically selected to sharply contrast Laura’s distinctly feminine messaging.  This physic is inspirational and it seem hard to imagine how anyone could improve such a naturally beautiful man.  However, it happened. One hour before the show started, Martin was expertly groomed by makeup artist Jennifer Turner.

Martin being styled

It wasn’t enough to have an attractive man as the subject for this artistic exercise; Martin’s muscular body needed even more adornment. A chunky silver necklace, two solid silver bracelets, and a thick solid silver skull ring were lent to Laura for the show by an upscale jeweler she knows…

silver jewellery for paint night

Lent for one night to the production, the silver ornamentation was all handmade by On the Other Hand custom jewellery in Toronto.  It’s worth noting that the lustrous accessories had a trans-formative affect on our hero.  Wearing these resplendent creations made the man feel more confident, and more ‘adorable’. The high fashion silver jewellery literally ennobled the subject.  In this way, Laura created a ‘noble savage’ with great masculinity to contrast the theme of feminine solidarity in the manifesto she was set to debut later in the evening.

Martin Dasko of Studenomics at Paint Night

The bright silver ornaments were specially selected to contrast Martin’s well tanned skin and animal print apparel.

The animal print costume was part of the initial plan and made it through all stages of creative planning and acquisition. Here is an image Laura snapped while buying leopard print textile at Designer Fabric in Toronto.

buying leopard print velour at Designer fabrics in Toronto

Leopard print fleece textile was obtained at Designer Fabrics in Toronto and was waiting for Martin Dasko when he appeared at the restaurant. But it had not been cut into a costume yet, so the wait staff had fun trying their hands at styling the evening’s hero.

The leopard print loin cloth was fashioned on-site by many hands. Everyone had some idea of how the cavemen suit should look, and there was enough material to try several different approaches.  After some waitresses at the restaurant tried their hands, Jennifer Turner of Modern Makeup arrived and took over and styled Martin as a ‘couture caveman’ in a Fred Flintstone style frock which was initially conceived with a shoulder strap.

Martin was coiffed as a cute cavemen by Jennifer Turner of Modern Makeup

Laura Bilotta was among one of the last people to arrive at the venue, and almost upon entry, she asked Jennifer to remove Martin’s shoulder strap.  This meant that Jenn would have to do the costume all over again, but I dont think she minded.  Laura insisted saying that the seat belt shaped strap covered the paint subject’s best feature, pointing out Martin’s well-developed pectoral muscles.

Jenn wrote a detailed account of styling the paint night on her Modern Makeup blog.  She wrote on how she “brightened the area under his eyes and hid a bit of redness. He had never had his makeup done before so he wasn’t sure what to expect. Luckily he trusted me and I didn’t make him look ridiculous. Laura wanted me to oil Martin’s chest but instead I applied a little bit of extra shadow and highlight to showcase his muscles.”

Jennifer applied make-up to the entire top half of Martin’s body. She used her brushes to tone his face and accentuate his muscles. While many observers didn’t think Martin’s body could be improved, Jenn really proved her skills as the finished product, a perfectly coifed caveman, was even more compelling.

Single in the City’s very first Paint Night event began humbly with some opening remarks from Laura who introduced Julia Chatterji of Studio paint Bar and Martin Dasko the noble savage to twelve female painters. The assembly of eager artists wet their brushes with anticipation as they surveyed the subject waiting to be sketched and coloured on their canvases.

The gender specific event concept corresponds with something else Laura has been working on for a few weeks, something she calls The Wing Woman Collective. This is a new archetypal behaviour model that is defined in part by a central Wing Woman Code of Honour.

Laura Bilotta Used the All-Female Audience to Debut her Wing Woman Collective

In the shadow of the #MeToo movement, and in connection with our society’s reaction to powerful men preying on younger women, Laura unveiled a code of conduct for Wing Women.

What is a Wing Woman? A Wing Woman is a charismatic female who helps both boys and girls meet new people romantically while not actively seeking companionship herself.

As the ladies painted their pictures, and while Martin stood silently listening, Laura listed the Ten Rules in the Wing Woman Code of Conduct.  This will certainly be its own blog post on Single in the City at some future date, but until then you can see some of these commandments listed in order in the photo opposite (which expands when clicked).

After a relaxing ten-minute break in which some delicious appetizers were served, the ladies returned to their brushes to put the finishing touches on their masterpieces.

When the evening wrapped up, and participants were starting to get a little antsy; the painters were waving their canvases around to dry the paint enough for travel. It was at that moment Keith Travers appeared in the restaurant with an armful of empty picture wooden frames.

Keith Travers is the builder behind Eastview Homes, Oakville, Burlington building contractor. Being an artist himself,  Mr Travers really enjoyed himself as he joined Laura and Julia  traipsing around the paint studio selecting the best images to win the walnut frames.

Everyone came away with something. All the participants who came out that night got SWAG bags stuffed with cosmetic samples, skin moisturizing products and gift certificates from Mississauga hair salons and beauty bars. Plus, they all got to keep their paintings of course, and the five best works-of-art got frames.

More importantly, this unique Paint Night experience marks another milestone in the continued evolution of Single in the City’s premium event management service. This is how Laura Bilotta maintains her reputation for pioneering new formats, pushing the envelope of creativity, while maintaining a safe environment for clients making lifelong connections.

Fashion as Art in Ajax Ontario

Fashion as Art in Ajax Ontario

Fashion is truly an art form. The way we chose to present ourselves to the world is an expression of who we are. For some, it can take a lot of courage to wear what they want, and others feel more beautiful when they follow current    trends. Regardless of what you wear, the clothes we put on every day are a representation of our personalities, our cultures, and our tastes. Here we will be exploring the styles of four Ajax teens and what Fashion means to them.

Maryam, 17

Jeans: H&M- $10
Top: H&M – $15
Sunglasses: Forever 21 – $7

Maryam has recently recognized the significance of the clothes we wear. “I never used to be that big on fashion”, she states in an interview, “but the past two years I’ve really been trying to find my style and what I like/how I like to wear certain clothes”.  Like most teenagers, Maryam is discovering herself and growing into her own skin. She likes the diversity that you see in clothes and styles and tastes and she really believes that fashion is an importanf aspect of everyday life. “I think fashion should mean something to everyone, everyone participates in it one way or another, I know it’s cliché, but fashion is a way someone can express themselves.” – Maryam

Louis, 18

Shirt : H&M – $20
Pants: H&M – $50
Shoes: Zara – $50

Louis is an artist. He sees the world from a very unique perspective. He’s fearless and confident and all of this is made apparent in the way he likes to dress. Fashion is a way for him to express his creativity and his artistry to the world on a daily basis.
“I believe fashion is just another window for self expression, its another form of art.” – Louis

Holly, 16

Shirt: Thrifted
Pants: Thrifted
Shoes: Thrifted
Thrift shopping has become a huge trend since Macklemore’s 2012 hit single “Thrift Shop”. People can find really great clothes at very low prices. Because thrift shops don’t usually carry anything “trendy”, they almost force you to create your own style.

Holly absolutely embodies this idea. She unapologetically wears what makes her happy. She understands the connection between the clothes we wear and our lifestyles and she embraces that every time she gets dressed. “Fashion is something that everybody has, either if it’s a trend or a unique style, it’s something that everyone can own, so own it!” – Holly

Barrington, 19

We’ve discussed how fashion is essentially a form of self-expression, but what do you do if nothing you find in stores represents you accurately? At age 18, Barrington launched his own street skate brand called “Suspended”. The brand has been doing well having launched multiple collections and is now able to ship Canada wide.

In designing the shirts and sweaters, Barrington has kept versatility in mind. “Fashion to me is doing whatever you want but being comfortable and still stylish at the same time. Turning basic clothing and putting clothes together and mixing different colours that complete outfits. Also adding little accessory can make an outfit pop and doing little things. Fashion is important because everyone’s fashion is different, everyone thinks about fashion differently but we still share the same things. That’s what I think fashion means to me” – Barrington

Being fashionable means something different to everybody. However, the bottom line is always the same: be true to yourself and do what makes YOU happy despite what anyone else thinks. Fashion and your own sense of style can be a powerful tool when it comes to owning your happiness and learning how to be comfortable with who you are. So use it wisely!

Peekaboo Beans feature image in Calgary Alberta

Peekaboo Bean’s Fashion for Pre-Schoolers in Calgary Alberta

In the beautiful city of Calgary there is not a day that passes that you don’t see a variety of different clothing and fashion styles! Whether it’s the style of someone’s hair, their choice of outfit,  or the style of one of the amazing buildings in downtown Calgary, it is a truly beautiful and fashionable place! The word ‘fashion’ normally brings to mind well dressed women and men in the streets of a busy cosmopolitan city, or beautiful, well dressed models walking a runway.
For this blog post I decided to focus on a smaller segment of the fashion population, which are the kids who will define the fashion of the future.  Kids can be very fashionable, while still doing what they do best, which is just being kids!
Peekaboo Beans clothes lets kids do just that. This Street Chic blog post focuses on a sharp-looking line of Canadian designed kids’ clothing that are soft and comfortable yet durable and inspire kids to run, jump and play. You will find many fashionable kids on the streets and playgrounds of Calgary sporting the very stylish Peekaboo Beans clothing line. This apparel is great for young kids who are excited to play.
Peekaboo Beans has fashionable and comfortable clothes that kids all around Canada will wear and find comfortable. Peekaboo Beans was created with a vision that kids can play and look amazing at the same time. These clothes are also super durable and can last through even the toughest falls and stains! These clothes are also great because children can easily dress themselves without going crazy on patterns.
All Peekaboo Beans clothes are mix and match so even the littlest ones can dress themselves and always have a coordinating outfit!  The young people in the photos definitely stand out the streets of Calgary with their clothes. These boys enjoy running, playing and having fun like any kids should, but with the dependable fabrics their parents don’t need to worry about the Peekaboo Beans clothing getting ripped!
As if the clothing line of Peekaboo Beans isn’t amazing enough the founder of the company, Traci, has incorporated some great safety and comfort features into the clothes as well.  For example the clothing items with zippers include a chin guard to protect your child’s chin from getting caught in the zipper! And, just when you think it can’t get any better you don’t have to worry about itchy tags that can irritate your child’s skin.  Peekaboo Beans has cleverly taken care of this annoying feature by hiding the tags within the layers of the fabric.
Justin Trudeau with toddler wearing Peekaboo BeansThe very fashionable founder of Peekaboo Beans, Traci is always working to market her products and get the word out about her stylish and comfortable kids’ line.  She recently designed the outfits that were on display at our country’s capital on Canada Day, being modeled by the children of our Prime Minister, as can be seen in the picture attached.
All of the Peekaboo Bean prices are very reasonable as well given the amazing value that is coming with your clothes.  Most  dresses range anywhere from $40-$60. And for a boys T-shirt only $30-$40. To sum up my blog post I would like to address how these clothes tie into my platform, These clothes can let kids stay active and healthy in a very fashionable way and I hope all parents and kids decide to make the switch, as their website says “Once you go BEANS, you never go back!”

Outstanding fashion in the old port of Montreal Quebec - Canadian fashion - Clementime on Instagaram

Outstanding Fashion in the Old Port of Montreal

by Alexandra, Miss Teen Monteregie 2017

On a Saturday evening in summer, fashion abounds in the Old Port of Montreal. It had been a long time since I had gone there. It is a place that represents my childhood , I always went to the science center growing up, fascinated by all the scientific phenomena that I could not explain at the time. It made me really nostalgic, for I had forgotten about it.  So I decided to choose La Place de la Promenade for the article. It’s amazing to think that this place has been around for more than 350 years. This port has played a key role in the economic activity of the metropolis. More than 12.5 million tons of merchandise used to transit through Montreal. In 1963, it was declared as a historic district. Since 2005, the old port has been redesigned to become a touristic attraction. It welcomes six million visitors annually.

pink purse beige shorts and black top tourist fashion in Old Montreal

Lucky for me, Gloria happened to be one of the visitors it welcomed that day. Her incredible fashion sense made her stand out from the crowd. I’m usually not a fan of pink, but I found that her purse truly brought a unique touch to the outfit. It perfectly complemented her camel shaded Wilfred Boissier shorts made of authentic vegan suede from Aritzia as well as her 100% viscose Italian black Rio top from Brandy Melville. Her accessories were like the cherry on the cake, they added an elegant touch to the ootd. The Aviator sunglasses come from Rayban. They bear their name because they were originally designed for the pilots of the US air force since 1937. They remain trendy despite their age. As for her 100% cotton bandana print scarf it comes from Forever21. To top it all off, her cute fluffy Steve Madden faux fur slippers really put the finishing touch to the outfit.

Outfit Price

  • Glasses : $190,00
  • Bandana : $14,90
  • Top : $20,00
  • Purse : ≈ $1000,00
  • Shorts : $75,00$
  • Shoes : $40,00

TOTAL : ≈ $1339,90

Gloria’s exquisite sense of style isn’t the only thing that defines her. Born and raised in Canada but originally from El Salvador, she pursued a career as a makeup artist based in Mississauga Ontario. She’s currently an education trainer for new stores in the Greater Toronto Area. I’m glad I had the chance to meet her!

Clement

My evening didn’t end there, later that night I met another makeup artist: Clément.  He is a new youtuber who uses his channel to inspire and share his passion: makeup. He discovered his passion by stealing his sister’s makeup and draws his inspiration from several celebrities of the beauty industry such as Jeffree Star, Coco Channel, Katy Perry. He admires these artist because they all value self-confidence and acceptance. I stalked his channel and his style immediately captivated me! He distinguishes himself by his unique colorful style that pops. I suggest you go take a quick look at Clementime his Instagram and Youtube channel! Don’t worry, all the products he uses are cruelty-free, a very important moral for him. On a more serious note, he is currently studying at the Gérald-Godin college in Social Science and he wants to go into the field of politics as a deputy.

Clément’s outfit

My favourite part of the outfit was obviously his makeup. Honestly, it was surprising to see a guy wearing makeup, but I absolutely loved it! I believe in equality and I admire his confidence.  His shark print cotton slim fit shirt from Le Château was matching his black umbrella as well as his Ralph Lauren shoes. All of this, was  completed with a pink cotton pair of shorts from American Eagle. Let’s not forget his cruelty-free backpack from Matt&Nat.

Clement you have really marked me with your beautiful energy, I wish you success!

Outfit Price

  • Shirt : $50,00
  • Umbrella : $15,00
  • Shoes : $80,00
  • Shorts : $70,00
  • Backpack : $175,00

TOTAL = $390,00

To conclude this article, I would like to thank Gloria and Clément for their time. I loved writing this about interesting people like you  with such an amazing style. What a coincidence to have found two makeup artists in one night! May we meet again.

Vancity Chic in New Westminster, Vancouver

by Samriddhi, Miss Teen Lower Mainland 2017
Photos by Shubhi Singh

If I were to describe Vancouver’s style in one word, I would say EXOTIC. Everyone has their own style here, which makes them unique in their own way. These personalities and identities end up becoming exotic because of the diversity shown, even in the clothing. When I go out to the streets of New Westminster, I see people who are genuinely happy in their style and don’t care about other’s opinions. I believe that everyone should be entitled to dress however they like and make the most of it. Once again, the Vancouver crowd didn’t fail to surprise me with their unique styles. Let’s take a look at these unique styles found on the street of Quayside Dr, New Westminster.

Darien in Quayside, New Westminster Vancouver, British ColumbiaHigh school students have some of the most different styles ever. This fresh out of high school student, Darien, explains his style: “‘As a dancer, I pride myself with my ability to dress appropriately for any given circumstance and being able to do so, has given me a certain style, a casual yet fancy style. As I go throughout my days I often like to dress-to-impress, since it’s a small world and you never know who you’re going to meet or see again’”. Now let’s dabble a little as to where this future P.E/History teacher buys his clothes from. These cool black cargo joggers are made by Urban Heritage and can be purchased at Urban Planet for only $34.99! Sometimes simple things are the best, just like this simple white t-shirt from Divided, which can also be purchased at Urban Planet for $9.99. Decked with Denim, Darien is rocking a DNKY Jeans blue button-up shirt, purchased from the bay for just $14.99. To complete his look, Darien chooses his favourite white converse from Converse All Stars, which can be found at Journeys for $85.

Sounds like an amazing place to get stylish and trendy clothing! These colourful heels are the definition of ‘Chic’! You can get your own funky pair of heels at La Chateau for only $69.99.

Ketti Quayside, New Westminster, Vancouver British ColumbiaWhen people discuss animals, Ketki is always there to liven up the party with fun facts and cute animal talk. This fellow dog lover is only 22 and is in the 2nd year of her Ecological Restoration program. “‘I believe in staying classy and elegant and let yourself stand out with your simplicity. I think that inner beauty of a person maters more than the outer appearances. The substance of your personality makes you, YOU. So, stay simple, have faith, love nature and stay beautiful.’” Ketki is sporting plum shaded George jeggings, which she got from Walmart for only $15. Her adorable black top comes from Old Navy, priced at $25. If you love the heels she’s wearing, just like me, be sure to check out Ardene for these $20 beauties. Casual Fashion in downtown Toronto 2017 on Queen St

Casual Fashion on Queen Street in Toronto

By Yanna, Miss Teen GTA 2017

Fashion comes and goes, as all things in life. One style of clothing, hair, or even behavior fades away and is replaced with another, however, what I see is eternal is our personal styles that defines and creates each of us unique. One’s said by Coco Chanel,

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

With these ideas in mind, I was constantly contemplating what street in Toronto truly expresses both diversity and chic, but also allows each individual to be free in their style and choices without social strains – Queen Street. Form all of the other fashion districts in Toronto, I felt that Queen Street is one of those chic streets, where you can literary find anything you are looking for. It has been part of the Toronto Fashion District, as a result of the large garment industry in the area, where numerous textiles, fabric factories, and warehouses were close to many rail lines making it easy to ship the garments throughout various cities. Although there are still numerous garment warehouses and clothing outlets on Queen Street, today it has been refurbished into a street full of musicians, artists, small galleries, condos, lofts, and murals. It is also one of those streets that has both old Victorian and new glass buildings, that inspire magic and creativity.

Walking down Queen Street and you will see all sorts of styles, from the elegant to hipster locks that truly reflect the diversity of the street. Below is a selection of a group of individuals I found in some of the pockets on Queen Street and side streets full of murals, where I have demonstrated their unique styles and personalities. I have interviewed and photographed each individual, who among their differences all use fashion to express themselves.

Christina on Queen St in Toronto Christina is 17 years old student going into her last year at Humberside Collegiate Institute. She loves being involved in various student run clubs at her school, and she is on various sports teams throughout the year. She loves shop thrift shopping and to recycle clothing and incorporate it into today’s fashion trends. Just recently she has turned recycling old clothes into a small business with her best friend and hopes one day she can create it into a large production and design brand. She also loves Queen Street, because of its diversity and is one of her most favorite hangout locations with her friends.

One-day Christina would like to travel the whole world, since she loves discovering new places and pockets of various large cities. She is a very creative person and one day she would like to build her own house by the beach and live luxuriously enough to continue enjoy her fashion.

  • Shoes – Vans ($59+ tax)

What does Christina think about today’s fashion?

She believes that modern fashion in Toronto is very bold and “trail blazing”, and she absolutely loves seeing all the fun prints and cuts. With the humid summers in Toronto, she finds breezy clothing most appealing, and with this season tube tops and off the shoulder shirts that seem to be very popular, she has recycled many of her old clothing to make it fit with today’s trends. Christina also finds that Toronto’s fashion is much more laid back, and many Torontonians tend to rely on sporty apparels that are easily incorporated into today’s trends, as “my classic white vans that go with everything”.

Kat , a young fashionable aboriginal womain in Canada, against a red brick wall Kat is 17 years old and enjoys writing posts on her blog O SO VOGUE, and she loves photography. She is also very passionate about leading an active lifestyle and goes to the gym around four times a week mainly focusing on weight training and calisthenics. Her dream is to travel the world and experience as many new things as possible, most importantly to embrace life’s beauty. Next year she is planning a huge backpacking trip around Europe.

What does Kat think about today’s fashion?

Kat created her O SO VOGUE blog to share her opinions, tips, and tricks about fashion, make-up, fitness, and beauty with the world. On her blog there are many recipes, fitness tips and pictures, make-up and beauty posts, but mostly fashion. Although she enjoys today’s fashion, she is displeased with the poor choices students have with backpacks. She believes that over the past years nylon backpacks are unpractical and easily rip, so now on her blog she has been trying to promote leather and many of its qualities and use in the fashion world.

Marko in casual fashion wear on Queen Toronto

Marko has just finished high school and is determined to pursue a career in music. He regularly creates music videos and has his own YouTube channel. Beside his music passion and spending time in the recording studio, he plays basketball or watches movies. His life goal is to be able to live off being an artist, who is able to share and express his ideas about the world to the public.

What does Marko think about today’s fashion?

“To be honest, I know nothing about fashion, I have no idea about designers or brands or any of the stuff.” Even though, Marko does not have many ideas about fashion nor does he wear any brands, since most of his clothes are bought through thrift shopping or no name brands (except for some Adidas sneakers or timberland shoes). Nevertheless, he represents a perfect example of the diversity of styles that can be found on Queen Street.

Although, no name brands to some might not constitute as fashion, I would argue differently because it is important that individuals are not defined by brands or modern fashion trends that undermine their character. Which I believe Marko was trying to state with his style choice in choosing no named brands, since with no named brands “I am able to express myself in a more creative and personal way, that truly reflects me as an individual, which I also try to do through my music.”

Angel in Toronto in white top with denim skirtAngel is 17 years old student going into her last year at University of Toronto Schools. She believes that she is your basic teenage stereotype with a “Starbucks addiction, gimmicky Instagram food, and Netflix binging problem”. Besides all the basics, she loves to dance, write, go to debates, and she is an avid supporter for many social justice issues. Above everything, she loves to shop, even though she believes that she “spends way too much time and money on clothing”.

What does Angel think about today’s fashion?

Angel believes that fashion is a perfect way to express yourself for the world to see. She believes that today’s fashion is quickly expanding and feels things that people would have dissed in the past, such as mom jeans or slides, are making a comeback. However, what she particularly adores about today’s trends is that “now more than ever people can make choices about clothing that suit them, that’s why I like Queen Street because it has many unique things to explore”.

What does Nevena think about today’s fashion?

Nevena loves to follow fashion trends and believes each era of fashion, as today’s fashion has its own unique magic. She is always open to new things, so when it comes to fashion there is almost nothing she does not like. With today’s fashion and bright colors, she feels that it gives her an opportunity to express herself even more, by combining different things together. Even though she follows regular fashion trends, she chooses clothes that reflect her, thus allowing her to create a slightly unique style of her own, as she states “I first want to feel comfortable and reflect my character”.

Vilde is a first-year university student for international relations, Vilde is aspiring to be a diplomat, specializing in global health that will primarily focus on children in South and Central America. She feels that “fashion of today is perfectly portrayed on this street [Queen Street]”; as Queen Street she feels todays trends are a mixture of the old and the new, and as music and art they have become very expressive and individualized.

Jovana feels that many of the styles have already been seen (particularly trends in 2016 and 2017) are merely imitating fashion of the 90’s. Jovana instead follows things that she likes, and she would say that her style is more “sport-rocker elegance”, since she loves wearing boots and leather jackets.

What does Hristina think about today’s fashion?

She loves today’s fashion and also enjoys to follow popular fashion trends. She is very happy with today’s fashion, primarily because it allows her to freely express herself and her personality. As it is seen in her fashion choice, she likes to combine dark colors with light colors that accent specific details of her outfit, in this case the bright colored flowers. Because of the hot summers in Toronto and this year’s fashion, she is able to enjoy the over the shoulder tops, which she believes add both elegance and chic to her personal style.

Fashion to Fitness in Downtown Toronto

By Nicole, Miss Teenage South Central Ontario 2017

What is fashion? It is a distinctive trend in style in a way which a certain person dresses. Fashion is a way for someone to express themselves, and who they are. The beauty about fashion is there is no right or wrong way to dress, trends come and go changing every single day, so you just have to wear what you want, and walk in it as if you are on your own runway! The most important thing to remember is to always be comfortable in your own skin cause that’s what makes you fabulous!

In my role as Miss teenage South Central Ontario, I ventured out on the streets of Toronto, in search for the different styles out there. My first step, was to pick what street I would begin my journey on. It was actually an easy choice for me; I decided to pick one of the longest streets we have in Canada, and that is “Yonge Street.”

To put a spin on things, I decided to write this Street Chic fashion article with a focus on my platform, which is, Empowering people through physical activity.  I wanted to capture the look of people dressing fashionable at work, but able to easily change and keep a healthy lifestyle, by going to work out. Which is why my location was located more specifically near the Goodlife fitness where I train everyday. Some of the people I interviewed worked out that same day, while others had different set days that they go to the gym.

I noticed a lot of students, and people from their workplace going to the gym on their lunch break. Since I had stayed a few hours I saw them walk into the gym fashionable, and leave just as beautiful. That is because they picked outfits that were cute but comfortable, and easy to change. This goes to show, it’s easy to live a healthy lifestyle but be well dressed at the same time. Even if you aren’t wearing the most elaborate clothes, and a lot of accessories, I believe that having a fit healthy body is something you can wear as well.  I asked all the people a series of questions, and named my survey “fashion to fitness.” I also asked for their permission to use their first name and picture. Here is what I got!

After interviewing all four of my volunteers, I came to a few conclusions…. I saw that some know they have a busy schedule, but they still find time to pick a fashionable outfit for the morning and change after to workout. Their solution was to prepare their clothes the night before! They planned their week at their own pace, and decided how many times they feel like going to the gym. Some of these peoples photos, were them on their days off. We are all allowed to have a break, and that’s the perfect moment we can take time, to have fun with picking our outfits. It’s easy, and rewarding on so many levels being active, there shouldn’t be anything stopping all of you!!!! In fact I truly believe having a strong body, that you feel happy, and confident in, is the best accessory that you can wear! Thank you for following along, and remember you are always fabulous!
